I am not really the type of person who asks for help easily. I would much rather work my fingers to the bone and do things on my own than ask for help.

But this time, I’m going to swallow my pride and ask for your help.

2012′s Winning Photo

I’m sure everyone is as excited for Jozi Craft Beer Fest as I am. Right?!

If you’re not – you should be.

a.) There are plenty of delicious craft beers being sold.

b.) Some of the best foodies will be selling their incredible food on the day (AKA: The Counter.)

c.) We are giving away an awesome prize. Enough said.

This is what you have to do:

Buy a burger or brownie (or both) from The Counter’s stall on Saturday. Take a creative photo of you with/eating your burger or brownie. Upload said photo to Twitter, include our handle (@CounterLove) and the following hash tag:

#BeerBurgersBrowniesBoobs.

It’s as simple as that. Last year’s winning photo (above) won a free lunch for two at Market on Main and this year we’ve upped the ante.

The prize includes:

* Free lunch for two from The Counter at Market on Main on a Sunday.

* A voucher for two free Filo frozen yoghurts – the BEST FroYo this side of Alaska.

* Four bottles of El Burro’s divine chilli sauces (If you don’t know who El Burro are – shame on you. We can’t be friends.)

It’s baaaaaaaaack!

Who’s excited?! Because God damn, we are EXCITED! Jozi Craft Beer Fest is back with a bang and we’re ready to dive right in and feed the hungry (drunken) fest-goers.

As usual, we’re keeping it simple – bacon and cheese burgers; and brownies. That’s it. No fuss.

2013. In a word? Wow.

This year has been so incredibly busy that I haven’t had time to blog. At all. And it’s already April!

The beginning of April also brings The Counter’s birthday and today we turn TWO. I actually can’t believe that it’s been two years since I first started selling homemade goodies at a tiny market in Honeydew. Things have certainly changed over the years and things are hopefully going to change even more over the next few months. The location search continues!

Wow. What a year it has been! Does anyone else feel as though they need to sleep for 4011 consecutive days or is it just me?

The past three or so weeks have been absolute madness. This is the busiest time of the year for an Event Manager (day job and all) and The Counter has been ridiculously busy with orders too. I worked out that I have baked close to 700 brownies in the past three weeks alone – MADNESS. But a huge thank you to the guys at Ogilvy, You&Me Design, M&K Satellites and Tame Custom Apparel for the bucket load of support – you guys are the best!

It’s no surprise that I cannot wait for tomorrow – the day we have all been looking forward to for weeks now. The last working day of the year…For most of us anyway. The Counter will be closed from the 14th of December (bar a few orders for some VIP clients next week) and will reopen on the 8th of January next year. Don’t call us, don’t write, do not mention the word ‘brownie’ for the next three weeks – got it? Kthanksbye.

With that said I would like to say thank you to everyone who has supported The Counter this year – my word, but there are a lot of you! Never stop spreading the love my little munchkins…

How incredibly gorgeous did the gift boxes turn out that we did for You&Me Design’s clients? I am just in love with them!

Read all about what’s in the box on You&Me’s blog - these two phenomenally talented young designers were thrilled with them and the feedback from their clients has been amazing so far.

R10 of the cost of the gift box goes to charity – we’re always looking out for those less fortunate than us.

But! All is not lost! Meg has started a new blog called Little Food Baby - a blog that will focus more on food, restaurants, products and anything foodie related. That way we can concentrate on The Counter and everything that is happening with us.

What a weekend! Jozi Craft Beer Fest is over. We’re all exhausted and our bodies are wrecked after serving food for nearly 12 hours. It was all worth it in the end though – we met thousands of lovely people, fed the masses and received amazing compliments about our food. The amount of times we heard that the burgers and brownies were “the best I’ve ever had” are countless. Happy faces all round.

Twenty hours to go. Eeeek!

Tomorrow we will be selling over 700 burgers and over 300 brownies to a crowd of roughly 5000 people at the Jozi Craft Beer Fest. That may not sound like a helluva lot, but when there’s just two of you shopping, prepping and planning it IS a helluva lot.

Brownies are baked, iced and packed. Burgers will be finished off this evening. Crates of rolls, lettuce, tomato and cheese are ready and waiting. Sixteen litres of mayonnaise still to be made. The most incredible (brand new) aprons have been made by Tame Custom Apparel. Business cards are ready and waiting with You&Me Design. Lists have been drawn up, checked off and rewritten. I’ve driven Ian mad with the lists and constant questions – “Do we have everything?” “What else do we need?”

Bearing in mind that we sell around 100 burgers and sammiches every Sunday at the market, 700 burgers is basically just seven weekends. Rolled into one. My back buckles at the thought of being hunched over a massive grill for so long. But I’m excited too! I can’t wait to see over 300 people make The Brownie Face and taste our burgers, which I am convinced are the best in Joburg. We’re keeping it simple – a gourmet cheeseburger with handmade mayonnaise. YUM.

We’re also running a little competition on Twitter to hype everyone up. Tweet us a pic of your burger or brownie, include our hashtag #BeerBurgersBrowniesBoobs (Breast Cancer Awareness, and also – Jen and I have boobs ) and you could win a lunch for two at Market on Main. Simple.
