40 Days of Zams

Just over an hour ago on Twitter, Sandton City posed the question “How would you and a loved one spend only R100 at Sandton City?” to which I sarcastically replied: “On parking.” Seems I opened a can of worms and am now currently ‘trending’ in South Africa.

A few tweets prior to that one, I posted a link to the 40 Days of Zams website – a fantastic initiative starting tomorrow. Basically, you make one sammich for someone who needs it for the next 40 days. I love the idea.

Which leads me to my rant. I got ONE reply to that tweet. ONE. Now, I am hoping and praying that at least 70% of my followers actually clicked on the link and are considering doing the 40 day challenge. I understand that humour goes a lot further on Twitter than sombre issues like poverty and starvation, but I am flabbergasted. Yes it might be a slight overreaction, but probably not. I doubt anyone even paid attention to the 40 day tweet, other than my darling friend Travis Kruger. And even though he joked about it, I know this legend will more than likely join in on the challenge.

I know this blog isn’t a personal blog and it’s not meant to be used as a platform for venting, but charity work is something I am so passionate about. For every person that retweeted that reply to Sandton City, I am now asking you to join the 40 Days of Zams challenge. It costs next to nothing to make a sammich (or zam) and could honestly save someone’s life. Let’s get this trending in South Africa, rather than me.

Please make me believe in the power of Twitter again. Spread the word.
